- video camera - tripod - dslr - fans Costume : black dresses with a leopard accessory and heels. Red lipstick. Black leggings black top and necklaces

Things to do

We have to film the rest of the footage on the first day back after Christmas to finish the editing for our music video. We also have to take photos for our digipack and our poster. It was difficult to start to create the digipack on photoshop without the photos so I am going to start that after we have finished editing our video.

Screen shots of Editing

Here are some screen shots from editing. As you can see we have been using Final Cut Pro as it does give a better finish to the footage. It is also evident that many cuts have been used.

Editing

We have started to edit the bar and limousine footage for our music video. Using our storyboard we placed the right footage in the places we wanted. We have edited it very well because we want to then be able to put the studio footage once we have filmed after christmas.
We decided in the end to introduce the limousine two thirds of the way through on a slower beat of the song. We have done this so the audience is not bored of the same settings throughout.
We feel like this editing has been very successful and consist of a wide variety of shots as well as editing techniques of split screens. Once we add the limousine shots we will add more techniques such as fading.

Draft of poster

This is a rough draft of what I would like my poster to look like.

I want the diamonds around the edge similar to those in the logo. The background however I want a faded red so they band members fade into the background as they are wearing black they need to stand out on the background.

The logo will be bold along the bottom. The Scarlett will stand out because of the background not being as blood red as the Scarlett is.

To do

Before Christmas I hope to have drafted a digipack and poster on photoshop. I want them both to contain the diamonds and black background as well as our band name cut out. When adding the photos after I hope to fade in the photos so it looks quite glamourous. As the band will be wearing black maybe a red background will be better but we will have to draft it to see.

Photos from second filming at the bar

Here are some photos from the filming at the filming of the bar. As you can see we all filmed at the bar, to show the narrative as well as being in the spotlight on the black background. The individual shots on the black background came out really well because of the shadows but also the red standing out.

The group shot did not turn out very well. For some reason it came out very blurry on the computer but was fine on the video camera. Maybe we can edit the lighting on final cut pro.

To do...

These are the things that needs to be done before the christmas holidays: - screen shots of bar shooting and put on blog - find out how to lighten shots in final cut pro - design poster - draft poster and digipack on photoshop - book studio for after Christmas

Filming schedule

We have filmed all what we need except for our studio shots. We will not be able to film there until a months time so we have decided to roughly edit the footage we have then add the other shots once we have filmed. The studio will also be used for getting good photos for our digipack and photos. We will create our digipack on photoshops and add the photos later.

Second filming at the bar

We went back to film at the bar which turned out very well. We got a shot of all of On a sofa. This isn't brilliant footage however will be useful incase we need a few extras. We then found a black background in the bar with a really nice spotlight. It cast a nice and glamorous shadow for our glamorous band. We then decided to film individually at the bar. We were all in different spots being filmed to give a bit more of a narrative. Screen shots will follow in the next post to show what kind of shots we filmed and how it fits the ideology of the band.

Screen shots from the Limousine

Here are screen shots from the Limousine. When we filmed the camera did not show the outside however, when uploading to the computer we can see outside the limousine. We will have to use editing techniques to sort this out.

Screen shots from the Bar filming (1st time)

These are some screen shots from the bar, the first time we filmed. As you can see in the last shots with Beth the lighting isn't brilliant that is why we are going back to re-film.

Calendar

Things to do...

Today we will be filming more footage at the bar. We are going to try to find a new location for Beth (rapper). This will hopefully be her lying on the snooker table. If not we have to film again on the sofa. As it will be hard to find a man at this late hour we will have her by herself. This will connote she is independent and doesn't need a man which is the whole ideology of the band. If she can be on the snooker table it suggests her playful fun side and as snooker is quite a masculine thing, it suggests she is a strong woman.

Limousine filming

We shot in the limousine and filmed really good footage. However, when putting it on to the mac we realised that you could see through the windows however when filming it was blacked out on the video camera. Hopefully there will be an editing technique so we can make the windows darker.

We decided we need to go back to the bar to film more of the song in individual shots.

First filming!

On Monday 14th November it was our first filming in the bar. Sadly, one of the men let us down so we had to try and improvise and work with two. Therefore, we decided that two girls will have one each and then the girl that raps will have both to show the more dominating characteristics as the rap tends to be more masucline. We did not get to have our female gaze by having a half naked guy.

The footage was really good but some shots were dark as the spotlight blew up on us. We may go back to the bar to film a little more footage.

Logo

We made this logo in photoshop. We wanted to capture the essence of the band by including the sophistication of the italic writing with the feisty leopard print. We added diamonds around the border for the glam impact.
We chose to stick to the black and white and red for sophistication again however, add an extra boldness by using the leopard print as it stands out just like the band themselves.

Plan of action

We need to start filming next week and take in to consideration that we are saving the limousine element towards the end of the video.
We also need to take photos when filming as these will be used for our digipack and poster. Production Sheet

Feedback from our Pitch

:     2/6 responses said that our music video definitely has potential

: 4/6 said that our music video is on the way to Box Office
                                                                          success.

The elements that work are:
- Good locations and settings
- Image ideology and costume ideas
- Structure of the video as the audience should keep interest
- Use of Goodwin's conventions
- Good animatic
- Good ideas
- Clear target audience
- Good girl band

Things that need developing are:
- To consider saving one of the elements for later on the video so it keeps the audience interested still.
- People in the bar as needs to create an atmosphere
- What will happen in the rapping?
- record label

Things that do not work are:
N/A

I feel happy that we got really positive feedback about our video. We are glad that people understood our girl band and their ideology and liked them also. We are happy also that they picked up on our motif of costume and keeping our band sexy and sophisticated at the same time. We both agree that we should save an element towards the end and decided that keeping the limousine would be exciting to keep until near the end or when one of them starts to rap.
However, the reason why we do not want people in the bar is because there are a lot of shots and intimate shots just of the girls and the guys they are with. In the rapping part, the beat is very fast so when filming we will have to keep still shots and close ups of the rapper therefore the cuts will be fast also. We made it very clear in our pitch who the record label is (Sony BMG) as a mainstream record label is right for our mainstream band.

To do...

Before shooting the music video there are a few things to prepare:
- Come up with a dance routine for the chorus - DONE
- Confirm the bar and timings - DONE
- Book the gallery for shooting in the studio
- Make sure everyone has their costumes
- Confirm that the limousine will be here on the 9th Nov
- Confirm dates of video shoot
- Put the song on a CD

Recce

Below are the photos of the three locations we will be using.

The main location being the bar will be used a lot. It is a refurbished Student Union bar and fits the modern look for our band. One artist will be at the bar, another will be on the sofa and the other will be on the dance floor. The dance floor will also be used for the performance. It also has spotlights so whilst filming we want to get the lighting perfect like they're in a bar; dark however a spotlight on the artist and the man she is with.

The second location is inside the limosine. All the band will be in the limo together and just using mid shots and close ups. We want again it to be dark but spotlights just on them so they look flawless.

The last location is a white gallery. The lighting is great in there already but we want to add more of a music video effect and have fans so the band looks like they're glamorous. They will stand out in their black dresses and red lipstick with the white background. The monochrome look will also give a more sophisticated look to the whole video and the band.
